Lay down those weights
The Holy Spirit convicting us
To get rid of all the stuff that is not from God
But Lord! I can’t seem to let go
I find comfort in hanging on to some of this stuff
You say
Lay it all down, surrender it
But Lord!
I will be too lonely, too bored, without these friends
Lord please understand!
I need to fit in
I don’t have the strength to fight anymore
Can’t we all just be “friends?”
No! What does evil have to do with good
Or light with darkness?
Does oil mix with water?
Lay it all down! Get rid of all that sinful stuff
But Lord! I am addicted
I will fall apart if I let go
I have been doing this for years!
How do I surrender this stuff?
What will I do instead?
My child chose life, choose me
Lay down those weights
I will help you. Trust me.

Judges 1:32-33 (New American Standard Bible)
So the Asherites lived among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land; for they did not drive them out.
Naphtali did not drive out the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh, or the inhabitants of Beth-anath, but lived among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land; and the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh and Beth-anath became forced labor for them.
Judges 2:2-3 (New American Standard Bible)
Now the angel of the Lord came up from Gilgal to Bochim. And he said, “I brought you up out of Egypt and led you into the land which I have sworn to your fathers; and I said, ‘I will never break My covenant with you, and as for you, you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; you shall tear down their altars.’ But you have not obeyed Me; what is this you have done? Therefore I also said, ‘I will not drive them out before you; but they will become as thorns in your sides and their gods will be a snare to you.
