Capacity and Space for God
Psalm 42:7
Deep calls to deep at the roar of your waterfalls; all your breakers and your waves have gone over me.
Ecclesiastes 12:6-14
The pitcher at the fountain breaks, the silver cord is broken, the ropes at the well are broken—all Your breakers and waves have rolled over me.
And God breathed into man’s nostrils… He did this to create the capacity and space to accommodate the Holy Spirit. We are temples; we are tabernacles. He did this to establish the capacity for the spiritual man to be connected to God.
How does thirst feel like?
A woman comes at noon to fetch water from the well. Jesus is sitting there and begins speaking to her, asking for a drink. She is not particularly interested in talking to Him, deep was calling unto deep. The real conversation was about worship and communion with God.
How was she supposed to worship?
How could she connect with God?
These questions revealed her desire to worship, and Jesus explained that worship is a much deeper, spiritual act.
Connecting with God is profoundly spiritual and true, because He has already made a way for us to reach Him. For our spirits to be awakened again, we must be redeemed, washed, and sprinkled with the pure blood of the Lamb—Jesus Christ.
Where is God?
Where is the best place to meet and worship Him?
Who worships correctly?
How can a human commune with God?
The real question here was: How do I find God?
It was a thirst, the kind described by the psalmist:
“As a deer pants for water, so my soul longs for You. You are God, and I long to worship You.”
The desire to meet and commune with God is a deep call within us—within our spirit—because our spirits long for our Father, our source.
“Those who worship Him must worship in spirit and in truth.”
Jesus is uniquely qualified to teach us because He knows where the Father is. He is the way to the Father, and we are children longing for Him.
“No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
It is only through Jesus that deep meets with deep.
Therefore, preachers and teachers must continue to preach and teach, because deep is calling unto deep—people are searching for a way to connect with their source of life.
It is difficult to recognize true seekers; only God knows the heart of man. Those seeking the Father may not look like they are seeking, yet they may be desperate to find Him.
The woman at the well was searching for water, but she was also searching and longing for God. Her desperate cry is heard when she says:
“Give me this life-giving water so that I may never thirst again!”
There are many out there searching and longing for God.
Jesus is this life-giving water.
Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
Amen.
